Year 2 - Movers, Shakers and Community Makers Workshop

Year 2 took part in an online workshop from Hackney Museum called Movers, Shakers and Community Makers where they learned about African heritage individuals who have shaped Hackney to be the borough it is today and shared the stories of people who have influenced local life through their actions.

The children enjoyed the session that was hosted by a member of staff from the Hackney Museum. In the session the children explored the lives of 3 people and considered the roles that each individual has done and how they have helped shape Hackney and become ‘Community Makers’.

The stories that were shared:

  • Dr Ronx – He helps to keep Hackney healthy.
  • Betty Nosipho Hlela – An artist who brings out the creativity in Hackney residents through her designs.
  • Cllr Susan Fajana-Thomas – The cabinet member for Community Safety, with responsibilities including, crime reduction and anti-social behaviour.

Using inspiration from one of Betty’s designs, the children created their own chameleons in a post session activity.
